On the Topic of Bad Guys...

The new big-bad is coming to Warlord soon. Wrote up the outline of the whole event system myself just recently, though the guys are tinkering with it some. If you though the format coming up was Epic... this event is going to live up to that name and beyond.

You will get smacked around by it. You will lose tons of Warlords to it.

You will love it.

Sharpen your blades and memorize your spells adventurers of the Accordlands, you're gonna need them.

Origins 200... 6, right?

And so another Origins is upon us. I like Origins more than some people. I like the slightly more laid back atmosphere, the time to spend talking to the customers, etc. It's also the first time I get to see some people since last year too.

However, my favorite thing about Origins is the North Market. This is a wonderful spot of calm in the midst of the chaos. The North Market is an old farmer's market which now contains a multitude of counter service eateries. Everything from deli sandwiches to seafood to Indian and Mexican food is easily and quickly found, and best of all... no one seems to go there. It seems like every year I'm able to get great food in complete peace. Of course, that could have something to do with the random times I can get away from the event hall.

And for some reason, I always end up at the Big Bar on Two. I suppose that's where everyone goes at Origins though.

So what's on tap this Origins? We've got Warlord qualifiers for the World Conquest team, we've got the L5R Defend the Emperor storyline event, draft, sealed, etc. etc. All the good stuff you've come to expect. And prizes... people may have heard of my insane rampage of free prizes last year. I might try to top it this time, though in a more controlled fashion.

Hope a lot of you can make it out to Origins. Please do look me up when you're there and say hi. But not if I'm running around yelling and kicking Bounty Hunters and other AEG Staff. Might be best to wait a few minutes. ;-)

It's Epic!

So, the Epic list is online, and I can finally chat a bit about it.

First thing you may notice is the variance in the return of Open Warlords. Some factions got a few, some didn't get any. Now, I'll go on record and say I fought for at minimum one Open returning Warlord for every faction. But in some cases Design out-argued me, so some things like Lady of Mercy edged out Rabinous Zon. Ah well, can't have it all.

Still, the factions are much more interesting now IMO, because they each build to their own strengths. The Freeks have A LOT of really good low-level characters. The Nothrog have few, but their 3rd level and up dish out a lot of beatings. Samope, Donovan, and Brikta can all bring quite a bit of pain in short order.

A lot of "creative thinking" cards came back as well. One near the top of the list is Aphotican. I actually had much fun with him out of Ter-Soth during playtest. Cal Blackborne also has a lot of uses, but I think his best one isn't an offensive spell at all. I'm sure people will find it in short order.

Some cards may seem sorta, "eh" like Dagger. However, Dagger and some other cards only appear in the random section of the Battle Packs. This allows us to give you lots of low level, useful items and actions for the Battle Pack format, but not clutter up the booster pack common slots. It also helps the Battle Pack format to be viable, with few if any dead cards in any Battle Pack.

We of course hope you'll enjoy Epic, but after having played a lot of decks for it already, I think I can say with certainty that you will.
